Masculinism (It's a thing, look it up)

So in an attempt to both shoot myself in the foot and artificially increase traffic to this blog, I think I'll give my thoughts on feminism this week and why I think it makes absolutely no sense to be a feminist today after the break.

For some reason or other I found myself stumbling onto discussions about the role of women in the Videogame industry quite a lot this past week. Whether it be about AAA games lack of good female characters and female perspectives, or the ever present Ivy problem.

"What problem?"
"Oh..."

So after doing some substantial research (read wikipedia) I discovered that feminism is even more incomprehensible than I first thought. Here's a list of some of the types of feminism you can ascribe to:

  1. First wave feminism
  2. Second wave feminism
  3. Arab feminism
  4. Islamic feminism
  5. Black feminism
  6. Post feminism
  7. individualist feminism
  8. Difference feminism
  9. Radical feminism
  10. Separatist feminism
And that's just a few of them. The list seems to go on for eternity and the only thing all these groups apparently have in common is an issue that most of the world resolved during the first half of the 20th century: female suffrage.

I get that the reason there's so many types is that they're meant to address very specific problems that basic feminism skimps over or places where basic feminist theory needs to be revised but it's become a joke at this point when you have two types of feminist who can literally disagree on everything except the fact that letting women vote was probably a good idea.  And that's just dumb.

I'm finally figuring out how to work this blog thing and let viewers post in the comments so feel free to leave comments on the subject. I'll probably touch on it again at a later date.
